What is E-Commerce?

According to the Organization for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD) 2009, Electronic Commerce (E-Commerce) is the sale or purchase of goods or services, which is carried out through a computer network with a method specifically designed for the purpose of receiving or placing orders.

In order to map E-Commerce in Indonesia, BPS continues to collect E-Commerce data based on household businesses and companies to obtain a picture of the development of E-Commerce businesses in Indonesia, from the perspective of E-Commerce business actors.

The purpose of this E-Commerce data collection activity is to update the sample framework of E-Commerce businesses/companies in the selected sample areas; provide basic indicators related to E-Commerce (number of businesses, types of goods and services sold, transaction value, payment methods, and shipping methods that refer to international standard concepts and other indicators; and support the preparation of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), by presenting the value of E-Commerce transactions in the Digital Era.
